Iowa S3DA Hosts 3D State Championship

owa S3DA held their first annual 3D State Championship at Archery Paradise in Iowa City, Iowa. Twenty-three archers from three S3DA teams, including Wapsi Valley Archery, JaCo S3DA, and Flint River Archery Club participated in the event. The weather was absolutely perfect as temps were in the low 70s with a calm breeze. The Archery Paradise course, situated next to the river with ponds on the property, is a beautiful backdrop for a 3D archery competition. The course featured flat terrain with challenging shots for archers of every age division. Many of the archers commented that the course was fun and challenging and that they really enjoyed seeing their friends and shooting with them.

Iowa S3DA Conservation had a booth on-site for archers and spectators. The booth featured an educational display for the youth that highlighted the significance of planting for pollinators and emphasizing the role of bees in our ecosystem. The display covered topics such as food plots, conservation of animals, and their connection to Iowa bowhunting and hunting in general. Additionally, Iowa S3DA Conservation gifted each S3DA archer with a bag of seeds that they can plant to support the survival of pollinators in Iowa.

JaCo Coach, Cory Bellings said, “The first Iowa S3DA 3D State Championship was simply amazing! The course was awesome as everything was well-organized and there was so much positivity from the first target to the last. Our archers and the archers from the other teams had such a great time. I believe S3DA will only continue to grow in the state of Iowa, and I look forward to seeing how many archers and families we have at this event next year.”

A big thank you was extended to the owner of Archery Paradise, Steve Lepic. Steve and his family have been instrumental in the growth of the Iowa S3DA program. Archery Paradise generously donated their portion of the entry fees back to Iowa S3DA in order to fund awards for the kids in 2025. Additionally, Archery Paradise donated a bag and hat to every youth participant. A heartfelt thanks was also expressed to Scheels in Coralville, Iowa, and Wapsi Valley Archery for their donations, which provided door prizes for the archers. Their generosity helped make the event even more special and memorable for the youth archers.
