FWP Sites in Big Horn County Enter Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Big Horn County entered Stage 1 fire restrictions at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 19. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks follows the county’s lead in placing fire restrictions on its properties within Big Horn County.

Under Stage 1 restrictions, building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire is prohibited. While these restrictions are in place, people may only smoke within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter cleared of flammable materials and may cook on a liquid petroleum gas or propane stove that can be turned on and off.

FWP properties in Big Horn County that are now under Stage 1 restrictions include:

Tongue River Reservoir State Park is also under an evacuation warning due to nearby fires. The park is open and usable but air quality may be poor and visitation is discouraged for sensitive populations. These restrictions at FWP sites will be in place until further notice. FWP urges people to use caution while they are out recreating due to dry conditions and fire dangers.
