S3DA Hosts 7th Annual Eastern Outdoor Target National Championship

Williamsburg, Kentucky – July 12th-14th, 2024 Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) recently concluded its 7th annual Eastern Outdoor Target National Championship at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. This culminating event in the eastern region brought together nearly 300 archers from 87 S3DA teams across 16 states, all vying for the title of National Champion in their division and class. This tournament’s impressive turnout made it the largest stand-alone outdoor target event in S3DA history.

Meredith Rossow is a youth member of Koteewi Archery in Indiana. She began shooting in S3DA in August 2019 and has participated in this event for the past four years. We spoke with her briefly at the event, and she said, “I have grown a lot in Outdoor Target competition over the last couple of years. I went from just making qualification rounds previously to competing in the medal matches this year. It has been an adventure with my bow, so much so, that I brought two PSE target bows for this competition. You can never be too prepared, and things can change in the blink of an eye in archery.”

“We’re thrilled to see the growth and passion within our S3DA community nationwide, especially in the Outdoor Target discipline. We have had nearly a 16% increase in registrations for this event from last year until now. Not only is the increase in participation impressive but the dedication and sportsmanship shown by these young archers is phenomenal. S3DA has some incredibly talented archers who are charging head-first into the sport at all levels,” said Holly Helton, S3DA Executive Director.

The assistance of University of the Cumberlands Head Archery Coach, Kris Strebeck, Assistant Coach, Caleb Kirby, as well as the Judges, State & Regional Coordinators, coaches, parents, and countless volunteers working together with S3DA National Staff was critical to the event’s success. Electronic scoring at this venue was powered by S3DA National Sponsor Between Ends, which is a pivotal electronic scoring resource for the competitive archery industry.

The S3DA National Staff now looks forward to the final two national events of the competition season, the 2024 Western S3DA 3D & Outdoor Target National Championships, set to take place on July 26th-28th, 2024, in New Castle, Colorado. S3DA encourages archers and their families to spend some quality time in the great outdoors.
