Michigan S3DA Hosts 3D State Championship

Central Michigan Sportsman Club located in Stanton, Michigan recently hosted the annual Michigan S3DA 3D State Championship. Whether it was the shooting or the world-famous cinnamon rolls that the Central Michigan Goldstars are known for, people came by the carloads. This was the largest 3D state competition in the history of the Michigan S3DA program as archers from nine S3DA teams across the state participated.

John Fernandez, ASA Coordinator for Michigan and range official on the youth and young adult ranges commented on the discipline and commitment shown by the archers. “Having this many kids carrying on this sport of archery is phenomenal. This is the next generation of archery. Seeing these kids interested and willing to learn is amazing. The shootdowns are a great way to see all of the hardwork and dedication that these kids put into the sport.”

Michigan S3DA State Coordinator, Cara Waite said, “Each year I don’t think it will get any better and then it does. I am so proud of what Michigan is doing for youth in the world of archery. This program can really change a child’s life and I am so thankful to be just a small piece of the puzzle.”

Blakely Borema won a brand new bowcase during the raffle drawings. The big smile on her face said it all. Some archers went home with new bows, a hunting blind, a fishing trip on Lake Michigan, a taxidermy mount, range finders, binoculars, bow accessories, and targets. Each archer received a door prize bag with door prizes, stickers, pens, arm guards, arrow clickers, and more!

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic 3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3D shooting and bowhunting.
