The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) will meet at the Renaissance New Orleans Pere Marquette in New Orleans, Louisiana from January 27-30, 2025. The meeting will begin at 8:30 AM, CST each day. Full Council will convene after Council Committees complete their business beginning at 1:30 PM, CST on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, and public comment will be held from 2:00 – 5:30 PM, CST. The Council welcomes public comment from both in-person and virtual participants. Instructions on how to provide comment will be located on the meetings materials webpage as soon as it’s available.
During this meeting, the Council plans to hear recommendations from its Shrimp Advisory Panel to continue work on a Framework Action that considers modifying the vessel position data collection program for the Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishery. The Council will also hear a summary of stakeholder feedback received on Coastal Migratory Pelagics before discussing amendments addressing Spanish mackerel and king mackerel. The Council also plans to discuss deep-water and shallow-water grouper management measures and consider lane snapper size and recreational bag limits. The Council will continue work on modifying participation requirements for the commercial individual fishing quota programs and hear a summary of work performed on its Recreational Initiative, so far.
