Gulf Council Convenes a Virtual Meeting of its Ecosystem Technical Committee

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will convene a virtual meeting of its Ecosystem Technical Committee Meeting from 1:00 – 3:00 EDT on Friday, August 9, 2024. The mission of the Ecosystem Technical Committee is to incorporate ecological interactions into stock assessments and management goals based on objectives set forth by the Council.

During the meeting, the Technical Committee will discuss the 2024 NOAA Fisheries Draft Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management Road Map Update which aims to guide and enhance NOAA Fisheries’ efforts to implement ecosystem-based fisheries management policy and advance climate-ready decision making. The Technical Committee will review a draft comment letter on the Draft Road Map that will be sent to NOAA on behalf of the Council after its review and approval during the August Council meeting.

Public comment will be held before the meeting adjourns.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional Fishery Management Councils established by the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976. The Council prepares fishery management plans, which are designed to manage fishery resources within the 200-mile limit of the Gulf of Mexico.
