Michigan Habitat Stewardship Day

Saturday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to noon
Gourdneck State Game Area, Portage

Looking to get outside this weekend? Join our habitat stewardship day at Gourdneck State Game Area, an approximately 2,200-acre parcel of public land, located in Portage, that provides habitat for diverse wildlife species in an urban environment. These areas are important refuges for wildlife, and you can play an active role in conserving them for future generations.

Help remove invasive woody plant species to make space for native plants to flourish. This area was impacted by tornadoes early this year, so removal of limbs and woody debris may also occur.

This stewardship day is held in partnership with Michigan United Conservation Clubs and the City of Portage Parks and Recreation Department.

Registration is required. Participants do not need any previous experience to join. Please bring a pair of work gloves and wear closed-toed, waterproof shoes. Additional supplies and guidance will be provided on-site, so all are welcome to attend.
