Safari Club International Announces National Lobby Day to Advance Pro-Hunting and Conservation Policy

Washington, D.C. — Safari Club International (SCI), the leading voice in protecting the freedom to hunt and promoting sustainable-use conservation worldwide, is proud to announce its upcoming SCI Lobby Day, scheduled for May 15th, in Washington, D.C.

SCI’s Lobby Day brings together hunters, conservation advocates, and SCI members for a unified presence on Capitol Hill. Participants will engage directly with lawmakers to address key legislative priorities affecting hunting access, international trophy importation, firearm ownership, and the broader future of wildlife conservation.

“SCI is not only the first line of defense for hunters — we are the only hunting organization with a full-time advocacy presence in Washington, D.C.” said W. Laird Hamberlin, CEO of Safari Club International. “Lobby Day is where we put our commitment into action, by connecting industry and grassroots voices with policymakers who need to hear them.”

Key Issues to Be Addressed Include:

  • Ensuring that states are the primary managers of their own wildlife with limited interference from the federal government
  • Increasing public land access for hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting
  • Modernizing and responsibly administering the Endangered Species Act
  • Supporting sustainable use conservation in the U.S. and around the world
  • Protecting access to traditional ammunition and fishing tackle for sportsmen and women
  • Ensuring wildlife and habitat conservation and management decisions are based on responsible science
  • Bolstering the importance of the Pittman-Robertson Act and the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation

SCI Lobby Day is part of a broader campaign to ensure that science-based wildlife management remains the cornerstone of both U.S. and international policy. The event will also highlight how hunting supports local economies, funds anti-poaching efforts, and contributes significantly to habitat protection worldwide.

“This is the outdoor industry’s opportunity to show strength and unity,” said John McLaurin President of SCI. “If we don’t advocate for our rights and for the communities that support and depend on hunting, we risk letting others define the future of our industry.”

Participants will receive and attend:

  • Pre-arranged meetings with members of congress from across the U.S.
  • Issue briefings and talking point toolkits
  • A post lobby day reception at SCI’s Hunters Embassy in Washington D.C.
