Lone Pine State Park hosting education programs in October

KALISPELL — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is hosting educational programs at Lone Pine State Park in October.

Lone Pine State Park is dedicated to providing a variety of recreational opportunities and educational programs for the community throughout the year. The park offers activities for all ages, from hiking and bird watching to educational classes and special events.

Lone Pine State Park is 5 miles southwest of Kalispell and offers views of the valley, 7.5 miles of trails, and an interpretive center with information on living in a wildlife-urban interface. Additional amenities include a picnic shelter and a community room, which are both available to rent, as well as a horseshoe pit, and an archery range. The nonresident vehicle entry fee of $8 applies.

Lone Pine State Park is open year-round and the visitor center is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Without them, dead matter would pile up, suffocating the life cycle. Explore how decomposers break down plants and animals, nourishing the soil and keeping ecosystems balanced. Spooky Spiders

Saturday, Oct. 26, 10–11 a.m.

Join us to learn about the spiders of northwestern Montana. These expert hunters control insect populations and play an integral part in keeping our environment healthy. As part of this program, you’ll also get crafty — build your own simple spider web and discover how these eight-legged engineers use their webs to capture their prey. Sundays with Camo

Sunday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 27, 2-2:30 p.m.

Don’t miss your chance to meet our resident bull snake, Camo, up close and personal. Join us for Sundays with Camo and learn about the incredible world of snakes and their crucial role in maintaining balance in our ecosystems. You’ll also get to witness Camo’s weekly feeding, an opportunity to confront your fears and discover why snakes, though often misunderstood, are indispensable to nature.
