The 2025 Utah Legislative Session is over and Women for Gun Rights, a national organization dedicated to safeguarding the Second Amendment and promoting firearm education, is celebrating the power of grassroots advocacy led by its passionate delegates across the state. Through tireless effort, strategic engagement, and unwavering commitment to both freedom and safety, WGR delegates helped advance key legislation and stop harmful proposals in their tracks.

A major win came with the introduction and advancement of HB 104: Firearm Safety in Schools, which will ensure Utah students receive age-appropriate firearm safety education — twice in elementary school, once in middle/junior high, and once in high school. Women for Gun Rights delegates championed this bill from day one, attending committee hearings, meeting with legislators, and mobilizing support around the timely proposal.

“Thanks to the incredible dedication and professionalism of our Utah delegates, gun rights were protected in the State Capitol,” said Raelle Cunningham, Regional Director for Women for Gun Rights. “Their respectful, persistent advocacy made a real difference this session. I’m especially proud of Cindy Zumwalt, our Utah State Director, for leading this charge with clarity and conviction.”

While pushing for proactive safety education, WGR delegates also played a key role in stopping several concerning bills:

• SB 130: Firearm and Firearm Accessory Modifications – an overreaching proposal that attempted to ban a broad range of firearms and accessories. WGR delegates pushed back forcefully, and the bill died in committee.
• HB 132: Firearm Storage Requirements – would have imposed one-size-fits-all mandates on how Utahns store firearms in their own homes, ignoring the realities of self-defense and responsible gun ownership. Thanks to the voices of WGR members, this bill was also defeated.

Because of their work, we made schools safer, protected responsible gun ownership, and stopped legislation that could have put communities at risk. I couldn’t be prouder of the women who stepped up and made their voices heard.”
