The 36th annual AAE Arizona Cup was hosted in Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend, where Team Mathews shooter, Jimmy Lutz, was able to bring home Gold.
The event welcomed just over 750 archers, marking the first of four annual outdoor events that make up the United States Archery Team (USAT) Qualifier Series. The Arizona Cup served as the perfect tournament preparation, with Lutz’s sights set on the Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 1 which kicks off Tuesday April 8th in Florida.
Lutz set the tone early in his Gold medal match against Julio Barillias, with a 30 from his first three arrows. After battling extremely windy conditions all weekend, Lutz was able to settle his sights enough to find Gold again for the first time since 2022.
“This year was different with the wind. It was a battle,” said Lutz. “I didn’t shoot good yesterday, but I knew this bow was capable of winning. I knew today I had to mentally restart and get back at it”.
