Celebrating 30 Years of Outdoor Channel with David Morris of “Bucks of Tecomate”

DENVER – The Outdoor Channel continues celebrating its 30th anniversary this year while marking decades of excellence in outdoor programming. To commemorate this milestone on the network, David Morris, host of the popular series Bucks of Tecomate, reflects on unforgettable moments and the channel's impact on hunters worldwide.

“Over the years, the Outdoor Channel has significantly influenced the hunting community by expanding the perspective of what the great outdoors has to offer. Seeing is believing. Through programming such as ‘Bucks of Tecomate,’ viewers see what’s possible and are inspired to experience the outdoors for themselves." Morris continues, “And by showcasing a wide variety of outdoor experiences, the network has created a dedicated community of sportsmen and women who share a common passion for the outdoors and actively promote conservation efforts.”

For Morris, one of the most poignant moments in his filming career occurred in 2008 alongside Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell at David’s El Cazador Ranch. "Kneeling beside a big buck he had just taken named 'Triple Tine,’ Marcus and I shared a very personal few minutes I’ll never forget," Morris recalls. "Through his struggles to adapt to civilian life would continue for a while, Marcus left the ranch a part of our family, and he remains so to this day." This ties into the passion hunters have for the outdoors. "For countless Americans, hunting and fishing are more than hobbies—they are a way of life, a chosen lifestyle," he explains. "And for Outdoor Channel, it's gratifying to see this commitment to broadcasting outdoor experiences will continue for the next 30 years."

Looking back on his early days filming for Bucks of Tecomate, Morris admits he was surprised by the challenges of making good TV. "It's not just about capturing hunts. It’s about storytelling, placing the viewer with us, and capturing the magic of the outdoors," he notes. "It’s hard work, especially when dealing with elusive game like mature whitetails."

What’s next for Morris and the crew? "I've just returned from a plains game safari in Namibia," he shares. "For anyone who cherishes the natural world, an African safari is an experience of a lifetime. I look forward to sharing this adventure with our viewers soon.”
