Falls of the Ohio State Park will host hikes of its outer fossil beds on Sept. 21 and Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. and Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
These hikes can only be offered in the fall when McAlpine Dam is closed.
Hikers will be able to see Devonian fossils as well as learn about the geology, history, and dynamic currents of the Ohio River. The engineering of the lock, dam, and railroad bridge across the river will also be discussed.
The hike will last three hours and has no shade. It is moderately rugged with walks on uneven limestone ledges. There will be some wading in water up to 2 feet deep with a moderate current. Wear enclosed shoes and bring water. Participants will need to sign a liability release form before the hike.
Falls of the Ohio State Park (on.IN.gov/fallsoftheohio) is at 201 W. Riverside Dr. Clarksville, 47129.
