Schreiber Family Trust private pond application environmental assessment
A landowner is applying for a private fish pond license and proposes to stock Westslope cutthroat trout. The private pond is approximately 0.25-acre groundwater pit located between 247 and 909 Sweathouse Creek Road near Victor, MT. The pond is fed by a small perennial spring and groundwater. No fish are currently present in the pond. The pond is newly constructed and has limited aquatic life. Introducing westslope cutthroat trout into the pond will likely have minor impacts to the existing aquatic invertebrate, reptile, and amphibian communities present in or around the pond primarily related to predation by stocked fish. The pond has no inlet or outlet connecting it to a natural waterbody. Should stocked fish escape the pond (i.e. in a large flood event), species stocked is compatible with adjacent Sweathouse Creek fishery and poses minimal risk from a genetic or competition standpoint.
Comments due Nov. 28.
