Beverly Shores Earns Indiana Audubon's Bird Town Recertification

Indiana Audubon recertified Beverly Shores as a Bird Town Indiana partner for its dedication to creating a bird-friendly environment that enhances community well-being and supports ecological biodiversity.

Since its initial certification in 2019, Beverly Shores has more than doubled its protected parcels through its Green Space Initiative, acquiring 23 additional lots (totaling 43). This expansion safeguards vital habitats for native and migrant bird species and enhances the town’s natural beauty.

The Beverly Shores Depot Museum and Art Gallery unveiled a mural in June, featuring Indiana’s state bird, the Northern Cardinal, and other regional species. The mural, designed by Geoff Bevington, is showcased on the Marathon Gas Station wall (2 W. Dunes Hwy.), facing the South Shore Line train station and greeting passengers arriving from or departing to Chicago.

John Blackburn, a member of the Association of Beverly Shores Residents, said, “By fostering a bird-friendly environment, Beverly Shores not only protects wildlife habitats but also provides an incredible community for its residents and millions of visitors to the area.”
