Cannon Downriggers Shows Support to Maui Fishing Community After Devastating 2023 Wildfires

Cannon Brand committed to helping fellow anglers restore iconic fishing community nearly one year after wildfires – aids Hawaii Community Foundation.

The 2023 Maui wildfires, fueled by dry weather and strong winds, ravaged homes, charter businesses, and livelihoods in the beloved fishing community of Lahaina, Hawaii. Almost one year later, the fishing community is still feeling the impact with many fishing charters out of operation after the loss of Lahaina Harbor, along with the boats and equipment that were housed there.

In an effort to help the fishing community recover from this destruction, Cannon sent a film crew to Maui to tell the stories of charter captains and locals who are still picking up the pieces of their former lives, one day at a time. The goal of the documentary-style film is to bring renewed awareness to the areas devastated by the wildfires and continue to support those in the fishing community and beyond who lost everything and still need help. While the cleanup continues, it will take years for the island and its residents to fully recover.

Through media and consumer support, Cannon hopes to raise awareness and funds to keep the communities in Hawaii moving in a positive direction as the rebuilding process continues. Cannon is committing $10,000 to the Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund to support rebuilding efforts, and encourages readers to donate as well. Together, the Cannon brand hopes to make a difference and bring hope back to the shores of Lahaina.
