Louisville, KY - Thirty student archers braved the winter weather to compete in S3DA's first indoor 5-spot competition. Scholastic 3-D Archery, in association with NFAA, has added indoor 5-spot to their archery program. This new element was added to S3DA to provide its students with tournament opportunities during the winter months.
"This was the first time that we had tried an indoor tournament venue, so we did not know what to expect as far as turnout. We
were blown away by the attendance and even had kids come from as far away as 4 hours in order to compete. There were 30 archers who participated and we were pleased to see that they brought a large crowd of spectators who stayed to witness the competition. It is encouraging to be involved in a sport where parents and other spectators care about all the participants and openly encourage and support them. The atmosphere of the competition was very positive. All the kids enjoyed the competition and the event went very smoothly and we definitely want to repeat this tournament next year."
S3DA families wanted an archery activity between bow season and the first 3-D tournament. They encouraged us to move in this direction faster than we had anticipated. With the excitement that has been generated from our partnership with NFAA, I know this addition will be a homerun and complete the archery circle for our students and parents. They can shoot 3-D in the spring and summer, bowhunt in the fall/early winter, shoot indoors in the winter. This initiative will be a win/win for our families that want to continue to spend time shooting archery, for our dealers as they will be selling archery products year round and for our archery manufactures that makes the diverse products that are being used by our students. But most of all, our students that will be honing their archery skills preparing themselves for college scholarships to continue their education and their sport of archery.
"Indiana S3DA hosted a very successful initial indoor NFAA 5-spot tournament for our kids" said Indiana State Coordinator for S3DA, Derek Marshall. "This is a great addition for S3DA as it helps prepare our kids for the collegiate level."

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
