*CORRECTION

We don’t like corrections, but we like errors even less, especially when I make them. Last week, based on reports from sources, I wrote that SCCY Firearms was apparently closing. That was wrong. I spoke with SCCY Firearms’ Joe Roebuck yesterday and he assured me that while SCCY has “strategically downsized” in order to “address the current challenging economic environment” - they’re still in business. In fact, t a new product in their development pipeline sounds very interesting. “Downsizing” and “closing” are entirely different situations. The error was mine, and it’s another reason why I prefer being “right” on reporting more than being “first.”

Earlier this week, one of our readers pointed out an apparent mixup regarding the price paid for an Utah Antelope Island Deer Tag auctioned at the Western Hunt Expo in an editorial penned by MDF Director Like Thorkildsen. Here’s Luke’s response:

"In my excitement to write about this story I swapped two Auction tags in my mind. At the Western Hunt Expo The antelope Island tag was auctioned for $500K and the money raised for that tag goes to Utah State Parks. The $725K tag was an Arizona Deer Tag and the proceeds go to AZ. Both were record amounts for those tags and the money is going to be put to use for great things.”

An honest mistake. We’ve all made them.
