The Outdoor Wire

Correction

Friday, January 19, 2018

Regarding the Tactical Wire feature “Slam Fire,” run Thursday, January 18, 2018, an erroneous comment appeared. The Remington 870 shotgun – like the Remington 1100 and 11-87 – has a spring loaded inertia firing pin. The coil spring around the firing pin prevents it from protruding beyond the bolt face until struck by the hammer.  It is physically impossible, unless the gun has been unsafely modified, to create enough inertia closing the 870 to move the firing pin forward of the bolt face and create a dimple on the primer. We regret the error.

A release carried in yesterday's edition of The Outdoor Wire incorrectly listed Maschmedt & Associates as the Sales Agency of Record for GSM Outdoors in the Western and mink states. That was incorrect. Ludwikoski + Assoc., Inc. is the sales agency of record for the mink states and more for GSM Outdoors.

Yesterday's developing story concerned the changes at Guns & Ammo magazine. There was an error in that information. Eric Poole is replacing Jim Bequette as Editor of Guns & Ammo, not Dick Metcalf as we wrote. The Poole change was reportedly schedule to happen in January, but the controversy over Metcalf's December column led to the immediate Poole for Bequette change.

In Friday's Outdoor Wire a release ("$10,000 awarded in 'TruckVault Cares' initiative") incorrectly stated that Quail Unlimited, the now-defunct conservation organization, was absorbed by Quail Forever. Quail Forever has issued a clarification on that statement.

In Thursday's edition we correctly cited our source for the information on Fenton Roskelly, but accidentally placed outdoor writer Rich Landers on the staff of The Missoulan. Landers is Outdoor Editor for the Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington, not The Missoulan, who picked up his original story from The Spokesman-Review. Our apologies.

As was pointed out by an eagle-eyed Georgia reader, neither Governor Mitch Daniels or former Governor Edgar Whitcomb are - or were- ever governors there. That's a flunk in political science for us. And since the Ohio River has never gone through Georgia, we're retaking geography 101 as well. All of the above were- or are- located in Indiana. Our error.

In last Friday's edition, we swapped the photos in a couple of Carbon Express releases. The photo of Christopher Perkins should have appeared on the Canadian competition release. The group shot in the Canadian release was actually from Danish competition. Our bad for the swap, congrats to the archers.

In Friday's special SHOT Show edition of The Outdoor Wire our feature on states exhibiting at the show had one of those typos that can send chills down a CEO's spine. Referencing Idaho's corporate tax rate we inadvertently left out a decimal resulting in a published 76% tax rate instead of the actual 7.6% rate. We apologize to our friends at the Idaho Department of Commerce and assure outdoor industry executives that Idaho is a tax friendly state that's worth a look. In the future we'll be much more careful with our figures and promise to 'leave no decimal point behind.'

In yesterday's edition of The Outdoor Wire, we offered a summary of the 2010 Bianchi Cup. We also relocated the event from its historic home at the Green Valley Gun Club in Columbia, Missouri. It was, when you get right down to it, a careless mistake. Our apologies to Green Valley, Columbia and all the eagle-eyed readers who called it to our attention.

In yesterday's edition, we incorrectly listed the number of Kentucky elk tags. This year, due to the increase in the elk population, there are 400 elk tags with a potential of a supplemental hunt with an additional 50 tags. Thanks to Hayley Lynch of the KDFW for noticing the fact we'd used a 2007 tag number.
