In observance of Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, 2023, we will not be distributing any of the Outdoor Wire Digital Network’s news services this Friday, November 10. Our normal distribution schedule resumes for all wires on Monday, November 13, 2023. Time-sensitive material for distribution before Veterans Day should be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, November 8 for inclusion in our Thursday, November 9 editions. Material received after that time will be included in our Monday, November 14 edition if appropriate.

We accidentally omitted the byline in yesterday’s Outdoor and Tactical Wire feature. It was written for The Outdoor Wire Digital Network by Michelle Cerino. Sorry, Michelle- and thanks to the eagle-eyed readers who pointed out our omission. It’s fixed in our archives.

According to the Bonita Fire Information Office, the Hopewell Lake/Camping Grounds is open. It had closed temporarily due to firefighting efforts in the Carson National Forest. The Bonita Fire Information Office's InciWeb website (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5235/) will have updated fire information posted to it on a daily basis.

In observance of the Memorial Day weekend, there will be no wires published on Monday, May 25. Our normal schedule resumes on Tuesday, May 26.

Spring forward, fall back. Tomorrow night at midnight, your clock should say 1 a.m. Otherwise, you're going to be more than fashionably late on Sunday morning. We hope that the "spring" part is accurate, because we're all ready for some spring weather.

We ran a draft version of yesterday's review of SureFire's Titan and Titan Plus lights in yesterday's feature position-and it contained some incorrect information. The correct info on the Titan and TItan Plus lights follows:

The outdoor industry is uniquely characterized by personal friendships and widespread camaraderie. Today, the firearms and shooting portions of the industry mourn two losses suffered over the weekend. First, we received word that Captain Dave Arnold had died following an auto accident. Arnold was involved in USPSA, the National and International Range Officers Institutes from their inception and was a close friend of many in the shooting world. We were further stunned upon learning that Smith & Wesson Marketing Director Paul Pluff had been injured and his wife, Marsha, killed in a second crash. Marsha was a longtime Smith & Wesson Employee and we're told that S&W has been "shaken" with the news, as are all of us who consider Paul both a close friend and a colleague. Sometimes, there are no words that can ease the tremendous losses suffered by family and friends, or adequately express our own feelings. Our hearts and prayers are with both families. A press release telling about a highly-customized rifle to be raffled at the upcoming Ranger Roundup at Fort Benning, Georgia didn't exactly contain all the details. The builder of the highly-customized rifle wasn't obvious, and several of our readers wanted to know. That build was done by 2 Vets Arms Company, LLC of Newalla, Oklahoma (www.2vetsarms.com).

After a couple of technical issues, our collaborative website www.MyFirstGun.net is live. The site features easy navigation, along with simple-to-comprehend basic information on firearms, accessories and instruction in both text, photos and video.

The Outdoor Wire Digital Network is partnering in a new website designed to aid and assist recent gun buyers or someone about to make that first gun buying decision. My First gun will contain easy to digest articles, photographs and educational videos to help the first time gun buyer or potential gun buyers build a solid knowledge foundation, free of bias or hype. Miranda Leek (Des Moines, IA), Khatuna Lorig (West Hollywood, CA), Jennifer Nichols (Cheyenne, WY), Brady Ellison (Payson, AZ), Jake Kaminski (Buffalo, NY) and Jacob Wukie (Oak Harbor, OH) are all London-bound, pending approval of their nominations by the U.S. Olympic Committee. The six archers were nominated based on their top finishes in the final Olympic Trials event which ended yesterday in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After running Monday's release inviting Bianchi Cup competitors to send a couple of sentences and a photo explaining why Original S.W.A.T. would want to equip them for the upcoming Cup, we discovered the release didn't give you any information on where to send those entries. We'll get that information to you in Friday's editions of the Outdoor and Shooting Wires. In the meantime, we'll make certain those entries sent to us get to the right folks ASAP.

Friday's editions of the Outdoor and Shooting Wires will feature special coverage of the NRA Annual Meetings from St. Louis. Time critical releases should reach us no later than 3 p.m. Thursday, April 12. On Monday, April 16, our editions will also feature special coverage from St. Louis.

In observance of Good Friday, we will not be publishing our normal editions of The Outdoor, Shooting and Fishing Wires on Friday, April 6. We will resume our normal schedule on Monday, April 9, 2012.

Today, we're welcoming the newest addition to the extended family that makes up The Outdoor Wire Digital Network. Our digital technology expert Clark Wachsmuth and wife, Mary, welcomed Samuel Hawkeye Wachsmuth into their family at 1:24am yesterday morning. At 9-pounds, 3-ounces, Samuel is now part of our extended family of editors, subject matter experts and future outdoor enthusiasts. Congratulations!

Later this morning, Ruger will announce a new firearm to the marketplace. We've shot the new gun-extensively-and have a review prepared for wire readers. Due to the release timing of today's announcement, it does not appear in this morning's editions. We will have the product review and information in tomorrow's editions.

A Virginia angler has landed a four pound -plus spotted bass that just may have set two records: the state-record spotted bass and the nation's first-ever state record freshwater fish taken with the much-discussed Alabama rig.
