DAMARISCOTTA, Maine – The Maine Warden Service dive team recovered the body of a Damariscotta woman in Biscay Pond.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. yesterday August 6th, Bethany Hancock, age 50 of Damariscotta, was reported missing by her husband, who had last seen her around 10:00 p.m. the night before. Game Wardens and the Damariscotta Police Department responded to the residence on Biscay Pond and began searching at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Searchers found a swim float mat that is usually tied to the dock out floating a couple of hundred yards in front of the dock. A preliminary search with boats and a drone were unsuccessful at locating Hancock. The Maine Warden Service Dive team was able to locate a body in the pond yesterday afternoon, and at approximately 4:45, Maine Warden Service divers recovered Hancock.
The death is not considered suspicious. The Maine Warden Service was assisted by Damariscotta Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Damariscotta and Bristol Fire Departments. This release will be updated if any new information becomes available.
