Williamsburg, KY – Tennessee S3DA kicked off the season with Muddy Bayou Archery hosting an Indoor 5-Spot Regional at the Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion on Tennessee Tech University campus in Cookeville, Tennessee. Morning and noon flights were nearly full with approximately 156 archers from seventeen teams coming together to compete. There were many seasoned archers there to assist the first-time archers. Micah Davis, the Head Coach for Carson Newman University Archery Team, was in attendance, talking with parents and archers about the school’s collegiate archery program. Tennessee ASA Federation Director, Jerry Shehane, was in attendance as well.
Tennessee S3DA State Coordinator, Robert Carter said, “The first event of the season is always a special time as I enjoy reconnecting with the archers, coaches, and parents of TN S3DA. Hyder-Burks is the location for the kick-off event of the indoor tournament series, and we are extremely grateful for their continued support of the program. The crew at Muddy Bayou Archery did an outstanding job setting up and coordinating staff throughout the event. Having the support of host clubs is vital to the continued growth and success of the program.”
Ruby Killian is an eagle archer for the South Ridge Archery Team and this is her first year in the S3DA program. She said, “I did not win, but I had fun. I met some new friends, did not lose any arrows, and only missed the target a few times. I think that is pretty good for my first tournament.”
Wyatt Hughes is a youth archer for Oakland Archery and is new to the sport of archery as well. He said, “My first tournament was a lot of fun. I liked the music playing and everyone was so friendly and helpful.” Elizabeth and Dalton Hughes echoed those sentiments with, “For our first experience at an S3DA tournament, we were pleased to see how smooth everything ran. We enjoyed the high energy and the friendly atmosphere among the competitors, coaches and the spectators. We are looking forward to getting to know more people and be a part of the S3DA archery family in the years to come.”
Tennessee S3DA alum, Delaney Pennington, was on-site to help hand out medals during the awards ceremony.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
