'Dig' Into History at Michigan Archaeology Day 2024

If you have ever wondered what it's like to be an archaeologist, here's your chance to find out! Attend Michigan Archaeology Day 2024 at the Michigan History Museum in Lansing Saturday, Oct. 5.

"If you like Michigan history, you’ll love Michigan Archaeology Day," said Stacy Tchorzynski, director of archaeology for the Michigan History Center.

"People have lived here for thousands of years. From the earliest archaeological evidence of mammoth and mastodon hunters dating to more than 10,000 years ago to 20th-century logging camps, shipwrecks and neighborhoods, our ancestors have left traces of their everyday lives," she said. "Studying their experiences can have a real impact on how we understand ourselves and each other, and how we envision our futures."

Hosted by the Michigan History Center, an agency of the Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office and Mackinac State Historic Parks, the day runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It includes archaeologists and experts from other related fields who will be stationed on the first and second floors of the Michigan History Museum to answer your questions, along with plenty of hands-on activities, demonstrations and presentations. What will you discover?
