Last week Scopos reached a milestone and manufactured their 3000th Athena Target, an important milestone in their commitment to modernize the sport.
Sixteen years ago Scopos (then Shooter’s Technology) launched the Orion Scoring System. A revolution for the sport; Orion digitally scored paper targets, and managed your matches over a diverse set of rulebooks, targets, and courses of fire.
More recently Scopos announced Athena, the world's first affordable Electronic Scoring Target for 10m air guns and 50ft rifle, with the first production units getting shipped about four years ago. Since then, over 350 American clubs have modernized their ranges with Athena. As we look towards the future of the sport and what it will take to modernize it, ESTs play an outsized role. ESTs and live scoring simply offer too many advantages to athletes, coaches, and spectators.
Since their last 1000 targets were delivered, Scopos has introduced a number of exciting new things:
They launched Rezults, a premier destination for competitive shooting matches, results, and leaderboards. One feature of Rezults, called Score History, gives athletes the ability to track all of their scores from any shooting style, as long as it was scored using Orion Scoring System. From there, athletes can easily view their scores, analyze them, and share them online.
Scopos introduced the MM200 Range Timer, the first fully automated range timer for the shooting sports. The MM200 follows the range clock in Orion, and can also double as a Spectator Display when connected to a TV.
For Athena ESTs, they introduced a new pulley target lift system and a new lift sensor, both significant improvements over their previous versions. They also introduced the ability to log into your Athena firing points in Practice Mode to track your practice scores on Rezults.
Transforming shooting into a popular, modern spectator sport requires a lot more work. Scopos' continuing innovation with Athena, Orion, and Rezults is playing a big role in that growth, by giving the advantages of ESTs to local and regional clubs. 3000 Athena targets is just the start. Many more ESTs are on their way.
