EasyExport Explains Changing Export Regulations in Recent Blogs

Adverse changes are coming to export regulations for civilian firearms and related products in 2024. During the holidays, EasyExport posted its first two blogs covering the rapidly evolving developments that seem likely to reshape the exporting landscape in 2024. Many companies that sell to international customers face the potential loss of major markets, new shipping delays, significant increases in export licensing paperwork and risk, and expenditures to revise compliance procedures.

In its first steps to help American exporters minimize negative consequences, EasyExport published Changing Export Regulations for Exports of Firearms – 10 Actions to Take Now on December 19, 2023. EasyExport followed that post on December 20, 2023 with Far-Reaching Changes in Canadian Firearm Laws Take Effect, describing the most important impacts that will flow from Canada’s new gun law, Bill C-21, enacted on December 15, 2023.

Much has yet to become clear in the coming months and will be the subject of more EasyExport blog posts in the first half of 2024. The Commerce Department announced at the end of October 2023 that it was reassessing export licensing practices for civilian firearms, anticipating further developments near the end of January 2024. On December 26, 2023, NSSF circulated a link to a leaked draft of revisions to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Among the changes revealed to be under consideration are a complete ban on exports of semi-automatic firearms to the civilian market in all but about three dozen countries. The leaked draft regulations also detailed new paperwork requirements that will add burdens to export licenses and limit their utility.

“Our software identifies export and import requirements for every product our sellers sell, so we have to stay ahead of change,” says EasyExport CEO Jeff Grody. “It’s a short step from the analyses we do for ourselves to blogs we can share with everyone. We hope to make new media acquaintances at SHOT so we can share our content with media outlets, too. The entire industry benefits from broader dissemination of information about firearm regulatory requirements.”

EasyExport will exhibit at SHOT Show from January 26-29, 2024. EasyExport’s booth – 42721 – is conveniently located just steps away from the entrance to the lower level of the Venetian Expo Center.
