Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Bruce Atencio of Albuquerque, New Mexico as the New Mexico State Coordinator. Bruce will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in New Mexico while working as the Archery Education Coordinator for the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish. Bruce is excited to introduce S3DA throughout New Mexico. As a large, but lightly populated state, he plans to network and foster relationships throughout New Mexico communities to recruit five (5) Regional Coordinators to reach out to the youth and introduce them to the exciting sport of
3-D, Indoor and Outdoor Target archery.
Atencio stated, “With 310 days of sunshine, Albuquerque, New Mexico was a perfect place to raise a family and spend lots of time in the outdoors. Fishing, hiking and my love for endurance sports keeps me active. I have competed in 5 Ironman triathlons and numerous endurance adventure races.”
Before devoting his work full-time to archery education, Bruce taught Physical Education (K-12) for 32 years. As a PE teacher, he was involved with the NASP archery program and lead numerous teams to State Championship titles. His love for archery grew as he watched his students thrive in the sport. However, he felt he wanted to help them find a path to a more vigorous and diverse archery discipline.
Numerous public schools across New Mexico participate in archery programs during the school day. S3DA will further extend the archery and bowhunting opportunities in after-school settings through archery affiliated clubs, sportsmen clubs, archery dealers, churches, fire stations, etc.
About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
