Ray Hughes to Serve as Tennessee S3DA State Conservation Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery is pleased to announce Ray Hughes as the Tennessee S3DA State Conservation Coordinator. Ray will work with Patty Reel, S3DA National Conservation Coordinator and Robert Carter, Tennessee S3DA State Coordinator, to provide archers and their families conservation education and outdoor related activities at local, regional, and state events. Ray has already started setting up the TN S3DA Conservation program and is currently reaching out to agencies and organizations across the state.

Ray was born and raised in East Tennessee and currently resides in Andersonville, Tennessee with his wife, Jennifer, and their son, Jonathan. He has an educational background in forestry, wildlife, fisheries, and natural resources with a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He is currently the archery program director and coach at Tusculum University in Greenville, Tennessee.

Ray is a lifelong archer and bowhunter. He enjoys traveling and competing in archery events and bowhunting with many long-time archery friends. He decided to become a part of S3DA after learning about the program while attending ASA archery tournaments this past year. He is very excited to join the S3DA program and share his passion for archery and conservation.

Ray’s goals for TN S3DA are to help build a larger team presence in the upper East Tennessee area and share the importance of improving, protecting, and managing Tennessee’s natural resources with the entire state. Ray stated, “I cannot wait to work directly with the TN Regional Coordinators and the Tennessee State Coordinator to develop a more comprehensive conservation program. The future of archery and continued conservation efforts may very well depend on S3DA’s continued growth across the state and active involvement from our youth.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
