Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Greg Ashley, of Newburgh Indiana, as the new S3DA Indiana State Coordinator. “Indiana S3DA has built a very strong base over the past few years and developed into a powerhouse on the youth archery scene. It will be exciting to see the future of the S3DA Indiana program in action under Greg’s authority,” said Jennie Richardson, S3DA Executive Director. Greg, his wife Jama, and their two daughters, Taylor and Courtney, are very involved in archery. Greg had heard about Richardson starting a youth archery program that did not limit kids to certain equipment and it gave them an avenue to shoot after high school. This program was something families could enjoy together so he was eager to get involved. Greg has now been working for S3DA for five years as an Indiana Regional Coordinator and is excited to take on the role of State Coordinator. Whether coaching NASP, S3DA, bow-fishing or just shooting, Greg and his family are always doing things for the kids.
Greg Ashley grew up in rural southern Indiana where he started small game hunting at 8 years old. His first bow was a small youth compound that he shot for a few years. His best friend at the time bow-hunted with his father and got Greg interested in bowhunting. A few years later, Greg got his youngest brother into shooting and bowhunting at the age of 10. Little did Greg know, this would be the start of his career of working with young archers. Greg attended Murray State and received his B.S. in Business Administration. Shortly after college, Greg started working in a local archery shop and after about 6 months purchased the shop. He owned and ran the shop for 14 years before selling it to a local businessman. After selling it, he ran it for 5 years before going to work for Bear Archery in the spring of 2010 where he is currently employed. Working for Bear Archery has provided Greg more time to help coach the local high school NASP team over the last 8 years and this past year the team won the National and World tournaments. He is more than excited to begin this new adventure as Indiana State S3DA Coordinator and has already begun planning for the future.
Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving
thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
