Texas A&M Marksmanship Unit Names New Cadet CO

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit (CCMU), at Texas A&M University, has announced that Cadet Tyler Toppenberg will lead the CCMU as Commanding Officer and team Captain for the 2013/2014 school year.

Cadet Toppenberg, an Eagle Scout from Moore, Oklahoma, is the recipient of a four year NROTC Marine Corps scholarship and will be entering his Junior year at Texas A&M this Fall where he is majoring in History with a minor in Health and Arabic.

In his first year of competitive shooting, Cadet Toppenberg led the CCMU rimfire team to an extremely successful first season including a first place finish at the Scholastic Pistol Program (SPP) Southwest Regional Championship and a second place finish at the SPP Nationals at Ft. Benning, Ga. He also claimed an individual stage win competing at Smith & Wesson's Joint Service Academy Combat Weapons Championship in Springfield, Mass.

Outgoing CCMU commander Matt Hawes, who has completed his four years in the Corps of Cadets and will be entering the United States Army upon graduation, commented that Tyler "is committed to the success of the cadets of the CCMU and will insure it represents the culture, values, and work ethic that are at the heart of what it means to be a Texas Aggie and a member of the 137 year old Cadet Corps."

The CCMU was officially formed in December of 2011, but today's squad represents the latest in over 100 years of history of marksmanship teams competing for the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. The CCMU fields competitors in the action pistol sports, steel pistol sports, 3-gun, highpower and international trap and skeet. Team members are drawn exclusively from the 2,200 men and women of the Corps of Cadets who are all undergraduates at Texas A&M. Scholarships and in-state tuition are also available for CCMU cadets.
