FRANKFORT, Ky. – The rifle tube range at the John A. Kleber Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Owen County will remain closed until Sept. 5 while repairs are underway.
Recent storms have washed out part of the shooting berm at the WMA, triggering a closure while it is being rebuilt.
Those wishing to shoot rifles have several other options in central Kentucky. Free rifle tube ranges are located at Curtis Gates Lloyd WMA in Grant County, Miller Welch-Central Kentucky WMA in Madison County and Taylorsville Lake WMA in Spencer County. Pistols and shotguns loaded with pellet shotshells are not allowed at tube ranges. Shotguns firing a single slug are allowed.
Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area in Meade County also has a pay rifle tube shooting range. Daily admission to the area for adults is $3 a person. Use of the range costs an additional $7 for shooters of all ages.
Directions and operating hours of these ranges may be found online at fw.ky.gov.
