FMG Exclusive First Look: The Ruger American Pistol

Last week, Ruger debuted the new Ruger American Pistol, available in 9mm and .45. GUNS Magazine was one of the first outlets to post a review of this DAO-only handgun, with Online Editor Mark Kakkuri providing readers with his first impressions.

"This is a balanced duty pistol that sits low in the hand, offers a fairly short and somewhat lighter trigger pull and manages recoil exceptionally well," Kakkuri noted. "In fact, four shooters put the American through its paces at the range and all of them had it virtually mastered by their second shot. In other words, the gun did its job to help the shooters do their job — putting rounds on the target."

During his range test, Kakkuri used everything from custom precision ammo to steel-cased ammo — with no malfunctions.

"It functioned flawlessly out of the box. I expected as much from Ruger, really, and the gun delivered. As far as first impressions, I'm impressed," he added.
