Stephen "Mato" Matulewicz to be Vice President of SIG SAUER Academy
Newington, N.H. – SIG SAUER, Inc. announces that Adam Painchaud is stepping down from the position of Vice President of the SIG SAUER Academy. Assuming that role will be Stephen "Mato" Matulewicz, who currently serves as Executive Director, Global Defense Sales for SIG SAUER.
Painchaud joined SIG SAUER in 2006. He has an extensive career in both the military and law enforcement and is considered among the top instructors in the world for small unit tactics and advanced firearms skills. During his time at SIG, Adam was a key catalyst behind the growth and evolution of the SIG SAUER Academy. While leading the SIG SAUER Academy, Painchaud maintained involvement as a SWAT Operator, patrol officer and special agent. He recently made the decision to step down from the position as Vice President to focus primarily on law enforcement and teaching. Painchaud will remain active with SIG as a consultant.
"Adam has spent the past decade making the SIG SAUER Academy one of the largest and most advanced training facilities on earth," said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. "While saddened to lose his daily presence from the SIG family, we are thankful for his tremendous contributions and wish him only the best."
Stepping into the leadership role at the SIG SAUER Academy is Stephen "Mato" Matulewicz, who joined SIG SAUER in 2013 and has served as Executive Director, Global Defense Sales since his arrival. Before joining SIG, he held a variety of roles in the firearm industry. Prior to that, Mato served as a Navy SEAL with the Naval Special Warfare Center and as the Ninth Command Master Chief of SEAL Team TWO in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"SIG is fortunate to have someone with such a distinguished career in the U.S. military to serve as the Vice President of the SIG SAUER Academy," said Ron Cohen. "Mato brings a tremendous amount of leadership, skills and knowledge to this position. We look forward to the continued growth of the SIG SAUER Academy under his direction."
Mato enlisted in the United States Navy in 1983 and pursued every opportunity to take on greater leadership roles. In 1985, he reported to BUD/S as a member of class 134 and, upon graduation, entered and completed the U.S. Army Airborne course. Mato reported to SEAL Team FOUR in Little Creek, Virginia, where he was deployed to Central and South America. In 1989, he screened for and passed the arduous 6-month training cycle at SEAL Team SIX. Upon the decommissioning of SEAL Team SIX, he transferred to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he rose to the rank of Master Chief.
