Kentucky: Kleber WMA Shooting Range Reopens

Facility had closed while improvements were underway

FRANKFORT, KY — The tube rifle range at John A. Kleber Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Owen County is open again to public use after a closure to allow for upgrades.

Tube ranges use large steel pipes to limit the direction of a bullet's travel. Shooters sit on a bench and fire their guns through the tubes. The facilities are self-service and not staffed.

"The tube range at Kleber WMA is popular and now available for hunters to sight in their rifles before modern gun deer season," said Chris Garland, assistant director for wildlife for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "We also want to remind hunters that due to new regulations now in effect, all tube rifle ranges owned by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are closed on Mondays for maintenance and clean up."

Garland said to observe signs at the tube rifle ranges for rules and procedures for use at that particular range. All shooters at every range should wear adequate eye and hearing protection.

Tube ranges are for rifles, muzzle loading guns and shotguns loaded with single projectile slugs. They are not for use by shooters using shotguns with pelleted loads. Tube ranges are free of charge for public use.
