Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park declared a flood emergency as of 9:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Park staff is preparing for what could be one of the top ten major floods in our area, according to the National Weather Service forecasts.

A dedication ceremony celebrating the grand opening of Wingfoot Lake State Park and Wildlife Area near Akron is scheduled for Thursday, August 26. The ceremony is open to the public, and many recreational activities will be offered that evening.

The Ohio State Parks' Rocky Fork Region, which encompasses Rocky Fork, Paint Creek, Pike Lake and Lake White state parks in Highland, Pike and Ross counties, recently received Ohio State Parks' 2008 Cutting Edge Award for several valuable park innovations which best exemplify the spirit of innovation and ingenuity within the system.

Over the weekend, Maryland's Point Lookout State Park sustained significant damage from Tropical Depression Ernesto. While the Park has reopened for day-use and camping, several areas of the park remain closed. The Maryland Park Service (MPS), Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP), and the State Highway Administration (SHA) are helping with clean-up and protection of the Park facilities.
