TFT Celebrates Great Event at the Renowned Metro Rod and Gun Club in Brooklyn, New York

Turkeys for Tomorrow (TFT) is excited to announce the success of a recent event at the renowned Metro Rod and Gun Club in Brooklyn, New York.

"Our Gotham Spurs flock, which is based out of Brooklyn, New York, are members of and work with the Metropolitan Rod and Gun Club there in Brooklyn," said TFT's Pete Daugherty. That facility has been around since 1934. It's a pretty impressive place, and they have hundreds of members.

Of course, it has kitchens, living areas for socializing, and more. The campus has an indoor archery range. It even offers an indoor, small-caliber range for firearms. The club also owns close to 1,000 acres in Delaware County, where members often travel to hunt.

Incredibly, thousands of people have been through the club. Even historical figures, such as past presidents, have frequented there. It's a storied place, no doubt.

"It's a pretty unique thing," Daugherty said. "Being from Alabama, I was not expecting this to be in the heart of New York City. The building is awesome. It's really old but has been taken care of well. It's full of mounts from past members, including big game, turkeys, and even some exotics. The group also has its own magazine."

Interestingly, the partners of this club also comprise the Gotham Spurs TFT flock, some of which are officers there.

"We had their first event in January," Daugherty said. "We had their social meet and greet. People come out to learn about TFT, some of which were members of the gun club and others just wanted to see what TFT is about. There are many turkey hunters and hunter-conservationists in that area. So, it was nice to see that."

For new and aspiring TFT flocks, the annual conservation dinner isn't the only event option. You can also hold regular social meet and greet gatherings to have fun, talk about turkeys, and keep TFT members engaged.

You aren't just buying drinks, eating food, spending money, and socializing at a banquet. It's important that TFT members know the money spent at conservation dinners, and other social events, are generating important funds for wild turkey conservation research projects.

"After we establish the flock, and the conservation dinner, these socials give us an opportunity to keep turkeys on people's minds year-round," Daugherty said. "So, most of our socials are from late summer through fall.

"We've had everything from a college football Tailgate for Turkeys event in South Carolina to a Monday Night Football event in Pennsylvania," Daugherty continued. "We've had socials in Birmingham at Back 40 Brewing. We even have sporting clays events. Regardless, it keeps turkeys at the top of people's minds. It's more opportunities to spread the mission, build the membership, and keep people focused on conservation."
